Acer Aspire One

The other day my flat was burgled and one of the things taken was my little Aspire One. Even more annoying, the day it was stolen I had just ordered a ZIF hard drive from an iPod to try and replace the SSD with.

Hopefully I will get a replacement on my insurance and then I can get Windows 7 on there and write a little guide for that too.

I know very little about Linux but I found a distribution called Puppy Linux which can load the entire operating system into RAM which sounds perfect for the Acer Aspire One!

Getting it looking half decent on the other hand and getting the hardware working is not as simple as you might think.

I recently treated myself to a little Acer Aspire One netbook. Its a great little piece of kit but after I eventually installed Windows XP on there I noticed it crawls! This is because the SSD has terribly slow write speeds. You can get around this by making a few tweaks to XP so I have outlined the steps I took to improve things. This should help with any other netbooks that have a cheap slow SSD drive as well. Good luck! Read more »
